Rex Cinema Project
Space Air recently supplied Daikin's Sky Air system to 'Force One Air Conditioning' for installation within a listed cinema re-development in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.
The art deco Rex cinema was built in 1934 and after providing many years of entertainment, was finally closed in 1988. For more than a decade, the abandoned cinema deteriorated, until the undertakings were made to restore this historic building back to its original state.
Following 4 Years of dedicated work and enthusiasm this building now has its former grandeur reinstated. Whilst remaining sympathetic to the original design, state of the art technology and contemporary features have been incorporated into this £1 million plus restoration.
The former derelict cinema has replaced its 1000 traditional tip up seats with luxurious seating for 300, tables and bar within the stalls. The cinema can now show up to 70mm format films and is equipped with over 25 speaker cabinets for surround sound and 'Dolby' noise reduction systems . Ventilation has been provided to the main theatre and bar, projection room, box office and toilets. Specifications were set for air conditioning to be installed within the foyer bar and it was important that the units would blend well with the new furnishings and decor.
Steve Giles of Force One Air Conditioning was asked to provide the heating and cooling to the bar. He stated, "The Daikin wall mounted heat pump unit was chosen as it best suited the job specifications: Temperature control on the unit can be set on automatic, ideal for heating then switching over to cooling in a busy bar. It allows maximum floor space which is vital in bar areas and blends unobtrusively within the interior décor. It also has a high cooling capacity, which is ideal for the particular room dimensions". He further added, "We chose Daikin for it's impressive reputation for innovative design, energy efficiency and reliability. The suppliers Space Air, complement this with excellent product support and customer service."
The Rex cinema now stands to its original form thanks to all the major players of this exciting yet challenging re-development.
